Job Description

To perform technical review and assessments of nuclear activities regulated by the NNR in the areas of radiation safety for workers, radioactive waste management, transport safety, environmental and public safety assessments to ensure safety and reliable design and operation.


  • NQF Level 8 in Natural Science or B.Eng in Mining
  • 3 years regulatory and/or relevant operational experience

Knowledge and experience of the following areas:

  • Radiation Protection
  • Safety assessment methodologies
  • Nuclear safety
  • Radioactive Waste safety
  • Transport of Radioactive material
  • Radiological Environmental protection
  • Computer Codes Modelling

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out review and assessment  of new applications and all authorization matters allocated
  • Perform technical review and assessment of all authorization change requests from holders and licensee  as assigned
  • Provide input in the development and modification of authorization conditions
  • Utilization of tools including computer codes and calculation methodologies
  • Carry out pre-approval inspections where appropriate of facilities
  • Assistance and participation in specialist area inspections where appropriate
  • Participation in the development of safety standards, regulatory guidance, processes, procedures and work instructions
  • Participation in development of the Operational and strategic goals , Budget and risk management of department
  • Participate in the working groups associated with co-operative agreements between the NNR and relevant organs of state and other relevant forums
